Motor size? Happen all at once? Any lights on the dash?

Hi Anthony,

Do you mean you can put the selector in "R" and it nothing happens - or can you not move the selector out of Park "P" to "R"?

Selecting gear is no prob. When u put selector in R u can feel engagememt but no movement.

If you're extremely lucky you have a low fluid level. Theres no dipstick so you'll need to look up how to check.

Most likely scenario is you'll need to replace rebuild the transmission but the vehicle likely isnt worth putting that kind of money into

Ok. Thx for info

How many miles ?
My 4.0 lost the reverse, and few forward gears at 117k. Replaced the whole tranny. If the body is in good shape and you like it, it beats the price of a new or used car.

I have to agree with Explorer_PL about the value of repair. The 5r55 trannys are called exploders, because that happens a lot with them. There are to many variables as ti why your reverse is out. The only way to tell is to pull the trans and open it up. I would NOT buy a used trans as you could end up with the same problems or worse. I am in the process of rebuilding my 5r55s. With a lot of mods made for improved durability.

Reverse band broke. Have to remove and tear apart the entire trans to fix it. Most shops require a rebuild at that point if you want a warranty.
