Hi.. I have a 1996 Ford Explorer. Have had it for years now. All the sudden the numbered push keys to unlock my doors would not pop my locks up and my key refuses to open the door also. This created the problem of doors refusing to open. I believe the spring in my front driver's door broke.. (found broken spring) and my back drivers door refuses to unlock at all. Some one suggested that the solenoid for the power lock may have froze.. so I unhooked the battery to see if it would release.. no luck. I can not manually pull the door lock up. I can not use the inside nor outside door handle to unlock nor open the back door. Any ideas? any ideas where I would take it to get it fixed?

Have you tried to open the rear hatch?

Good luck!

Or call locksmith?

Good luck.

is not the back hatch.. is the back drivers door
and there is no outside lock to unlock.. only front doors have a keyhole..
:'(

Ok, thought you might be effectively stranded and unable to gain any access to truck.

On the rear door, there is a very small spring inside the latch which breaks and keeps the door from unlocking. This can be resolved by adding a spring externally to the latch, pulling up on the rod that runs up the door. There is at least one good thread on this Forum that has photos and reviews this fix. The trick here is getting the interior door panel off, with the door locked shut.… prying the interior door panel off from the top with the door shut will certainly give you the impression that something is about to break. (Hopefully, this will not happen.)

The keypad issue is more unusual. Might start by looking at broken wires in the black hose/conduit between the door and the truck body. There are several threads on this Forum that discuss issue, and review the fix.

Good luck.

ty.. smiles..
luckily I was able to get into the only working door.. the back passengers door.. opened it.. then opened the front passengers door.. from the inside. (It was already broken from the outside). popped it open from the inside.. got out.. climbed inside the passengers front door.. crawled across and opened the drivers front door from the inside.. got out.. went around and got inside the car.. not fun.. had to do that every time car locked. Until I found the broken spring. Now afraid to lock it. And now afraid to go anywhere Cuz I'm afraid I'll lock myself out

Welcome.
