I'm the newest guy to the forum, and possibly to the Explorer community as I have just bought my first, used with 52K miles. (I did my research though and found one that had the tranny problem already fixed - but wassup with the cracked rear door panel thing??? - don't think it has happened to mine tho.) I was a Jeep ('88 Sahara) guy for years, and must've grown up a little with my new move to the Explorer. Maybe I've become a soccer mom. Anyway, this site seems pretty incredible, and surely will help me out over the next several years. I've got a few questions that I'll be posting in the appropriate forums. Looking forward to meeting ya'll (*?guess where I'M from?*).

Welcome to the site:D

As you'll find out Explorers can be a whole lot more than a soccor mom vehicle:D

I'm sure you'll find a load of good info and ideas here.

Indeed welcome to the site... As you have already started to find there is a TON of info hear.. A buddy had had the cracked door thing.. He was rear ended by someone while stopped @ a light

Marietta?!? Man, my aunt & uncle (terry & julie timmons) just left there after many years. They moved to Tybee Island to retire! Welcome to the site!

Welcome aboard! This is Ford Explorer Motherland.

JW,
so we have even more in common - I was in the music biz for 35 years, the last 23 in the studio as a producer/engineer. Took me a long time to reach burnout, not to mention the changing world of music and lack of interest thereof. your aunt and uncle made a wise choice - Tybee is a great place, far away from the madness of this area. seems it wasn't long ago you could look far to the left and farther to the right and not see anything but a long gravel road. You'll have to go visit them to see what i mean about Tybee. Hopefully I won't be too very far behind them.

Best,

Man, small, small world. I was a producer/engineer for a while after college. As a music teacher I do as much as I can w/ the kids to let them know how their music gets from the musicians to their iPods. Just got my school do spend 10k on some new sound equipment and I'm in my glory. You can imagine I'm a bit of a tech junkie so teaching music is a great outlet. I get to keep on top of stuff as it improves. I still remember my first mixer, not the brand, but I remember it had WOOD molding on the side! We were one of the first to use the ProTools software back when I was on Long Island. That's when a 100 meg HD was considered huge! And Korg was right next door, man, you're making me wish I stayed in the biz rather than teaching, but with our new stuff it's like I'm a kid again w/ lots of toys!

As for my Aunt & Uncle: My parents just took a week and drove down to Tybee, and they were VERY impressed. I'm gonna have to take a coastline trip down there once the engine is back in the Ex! I won't wanna take the CRV or Outback, 'cause I'm sure there will be lots of wheeling to do on the way! Be good, and it was great to cyber-meet you!

Yea, maybe I should teach... I've thought about it a lot actually. I was never much of a tech junkie; a musician that learned to engineer, standing back and producing from the song's point of view (mostly to analog); but I could POINT really well at where it stops working -- let the tech junkies do their thing then. I'm a lot like that with vehicles too. That's why I'll be here, learning what to look for so I can tell my mechanic. You probably had a Sun mixer, with the wood on it. I can still smell mine :-) I've worked up in LI at Cove City in Glen Cove and at Cloud 9 in Central Islip. Played the Jersey Shore a bunch too, Sea Shell Club or something? in the early 90's. Too much fun really. Really. Yea small world. you'll probably be giving me good advice, being a trusted musician and all. Great to meet you too. Well, back to X's.

Best to you.

Completely off topic, but if I can get to you before you ask...a very hot topic on this board is what wax to use. I was just looking at this thread...

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=185667&goto=newpost

The only reason I discovered Zaino was because of this site. Man, oh man, you can not go wrong. I sent myself an email to remind me to find out about that mixer.

And again, off topic...I'm dying to let you know what it was. I brought it to school when I started teaching there 10 yrs ago. It's in a storage room some where. It's gotta be 30-40 years old. I got it used in the late 80's.

OR, I bet, a Studiomaster, complete with lovely mahogany sideboards :-) It was the home studio champ of the early 80's.

Oh yea, the wax, I WAS going to be asking. Zaino - rhymes with Draino - so it MUST be good. I'll look for it. Just to try something new, I used McGuires a week a go. I think it must remove all the polish, apparently. It was certainly nothing to write home about. The really screwed up thing is that I realized someone has lifted my buffer/polisher - could find it nowhere... Damn I hate theives more than pompous bad musicians. :-)

Ross Systems 8x2. That's the brand of the mixer.

Ahhh, Ross. I'd forgotten all about them. Studiomaster was the first I personally learned on (aside from live desks); from there to Neve and Neotech in '83; SSL in '88. Still loved the Neve the most (tons of lead, nice and slow and warm.)

Hey, I ordered some Zaino stuff. Can't wait for it to come in. Driving around today I noticed several bodys that I BET were using it. Looks pretty damn deep. Ought to be getting it in a couple days.

Hey also, I posted a dissertation about a computer wierdness I had with Sir Edward. I'e been reading all the stuff on the site about it, learning a bunch, but decided to go ahead and post, in detail, the problem. It just seems bizarre, and I still haven't found specific answers to it. There are a few other little demons that I didn't list. Particularly, the dtc codes were not normal codes, AND the whole thing came through my message center. Can't repeat it either... You know anything about that stuff?
