Hello everyone on this site for Ford enthusiasts.....My Name is Steve & I live in Chile.
I guess I have been a Ford-Guy most of my life: From my first "On the Road Car" a Ford Anglia in the UK at 17 years old....having just passed my test...Through the Ford Escorts, the Ford Capris....and not forgetting the best small commercial van ever made in the UK: The Famous Ford Transit! I had at least 3 of those not to mention those I drove as a service engineer in Transport Refrigeration..... Best Van Ever. IMHO.
Anyways...
I am now an old-timer, living out my days here in Chile..Where the sun is great & the wine even better.... Cheers!

I now drive a brilliant Ford Escape...2.5...manual which I bought about 4 years ago...and I love it!
I'm having an issue with it...... But I am also working on a 94-or-so Ranger 3.0, which I need some help on too.... so.... here I am... I hope we have a mutually happy exchange of ideas & help.
All the best,
Steve.

Steve, welcome to the forum. Find out exactly what year the Ranger is because in 1995 there is no distributor in the V-6's. The 3.0 V-6 had some problems with the camshaft synchronizer going bad. If it is a 95 or newer & it has not been replaced replace it, because if it goes bad it can ruin the engine since it drives the oil pump. Here is a link to the part & the alignment tool.

Hi! Thanks for the reply...much appreciated.
The Ranger is a 95...no Dissy....Just the HT Pack on top of the engine.
The problem with this vehicle is the amount of play in the steering wheel.
I have stripped the column down and found two rings top and bottom in the column carrier assembly.....The owner supplied me with another column, which at first sight looked identical, but on stripping that down it had a different method for supporting the column itself.
(But, as I pointed out to him, coming from a scrapper, even if they were the same rings...they'd probably be just as worn!)
I'm sure the new parts are relatively cheap...but simply not available here. As the postage from the US would be reasonable (for the weight involved) can you suggest a supplier willing to ship to Chile? I have chassis numbers etc.

Thanks again,
Cheers,
Steve.

Steve, I was just letting you know about the cam synchronizer that could go bad on engines over 100,000 miles so they should be replaced as info to you in case you were not aware of the possible issue.

Hi again.... Yes...the information was something I was not aware of....so thanks for the flag-up on the possible problem. I'm pretty sure this particular Ranger has done far in excess of 100k.
I will mention it to the owner. He has a much newer Ranger now, a 4x4 Diesel, which he takes great pride in....It's a bonny looking Pick-up to be sure.
I note that diesels at this level are not popular in the US.....Pretty sure this is down to the relative price of "gas" for you guys compared with here......here it is the same price, almost, like diesel, so, when you are a self-employed timber hauler, it makes sense to claim back the tax on your fuel costs....on your truck-rig. Folk here cannot do that with petrol/gas jobs used for personal transport.
So, diesel-engined vehicles are very popular, especially out in the sticks where almost everyone (it seems!) runs a truck-rig hauling timber.

Hey...Thanks again for your input...Much appreciated. I'll let you know how the 95 Ranger gets on.
Cheers,
Steve.
