Hi Howard,

Glad to see the "new" forum for UK Explorers. I haven't been on here for a good while - been too busy driving the X and drinking tea etc. Have had the usual crop of check engine lights and other sundry silliness to deal with of course but it's still way better than anything that came out of Lode Lane.

Been tearing my hair out over fitting 2way radio into the X and running a 40 amp power supply from the engine compartment to the passenger cell to power it all . It's done now so if anyone wants to know how they only need to ask.

We've decided to go after a number of issues that we have with the truck so as to get it ready for the next 8 years and another 100,000 miles so I daresay I'll be taking part more often than of late as we try to get them taken care of.

Cheers for now

ps here's one I killed earlier (only 1,000,000 more to go) and that was all the damage to the X - what a car!

hi there im from birmingham got an x dead at the mo think it's the timing
do you have much trouble with your's if so what sort of thing's
found an engine but don't know if it's worth it
thanks darby

Jon,

Nice to see your not wasting time. I had a BMW hit me in the rear. I just had to give her back her number plate and bumper. lol. Absolutely no damage to the x at all.

Darby,

Haven't had an awful lot go wrong with mine but it has had just about all the early "recall"/TBI work that Ford did under "warranty" done. This has stood it in good stead for the last couple of years and it now has 104,000 miles on the clock. Whether it's worth putting in another engine into a car (assuming you can't do the work yourself) is really dependent upon whether the "new" engine is going to stay the course. If it's out of a late model car, say a 1999/2000 model year it "should" be safe to assume that it has benefited from Ford having installed all the corrective mods they came up with to remedy faults on earlier cars. (Sticking throttle body, cam chain cassette repairs etc). There's no hard and fast way to determine the state of an engine from a donor vehicle tho. You may be able to run an older donor vehicles VIN number thru the Ford computer (for details look elsewhere on the site). If you're lucky you may find out what the donor has had done to it. I'm not too sure how the later engines stand up as far as being worthwhile for a transplant. If I was looking for a donor engine I'd go for the latest one I could find BUT I would want to hear it running at the very least.
