I recently purchased a 94 explorer xlt 4x4 for $600 with 136,000 miles on it ( only one scratch on the 10th digit indicator on the odometer) it was a one owner vehicle and All it needed was a passenger side window regulator, already replaced it. I have been working on vehicles, dirt bikes, ATV's and snowmobiles for years. Mostly my own because it's too expensive to bring to a shop. I bought this X to make a dedicated trail rig for family adventures. I am going to go through it and change all fluids, tune it up and address whatever else I may find. I have been searching and lurking on this site for a while, looks like a good group of people with a lot of knowledge. I am sure I will have many questions as I build my X into what best suits my needs. Currently I am thinking 4-6" of lift and a body lift to fit 35" tires with lockers, gears and a snorkel. I live in Nebraska where we have sandy trails and enjoy driving in the rivers. I have just pulled off the plastic rocker panel trim and have to build some sort of rock slider to protect the truck and cover the holes left in the rockers. not much else to say right now. I found the site while doing internet searches for information.

Sounds like a great find, definitely low mileage for a '94. Your plans for modifying it sounds great. It does get addictive.
