High Idle- Help!

'98 XLT SOHC, auto, 82k miles, the last four days have been tough here in L.A. due to the hot, smoky air from all the wildfires around here. My car has had a high idle (1000 to 1500 rpm) since last Thursday and it is irritating. Could it be my MAF is dirty? I give all the regular maintenance on time, no budget, but this is the first I've seen of this.. Any opinions?

Have you pulled the codes on it? Sounds like the throttle pos sensor. The MAF would make you idle slower usually. Is your check engine light on?

Check the codes first...if you have a bad thermostat it can also make your engine idle higher than normal.
