High Quality Drop in Filter VS. Cold Air Intake

What kind of gain are you expecting from your mod? I've had 3 of them on various cars (Mustang, Taurus SHO and Explorer 4.0L) and I really didn't notice anything much of anything other than looking cool... I had open elements on all of them, and never had water problems either, and I submarined my SHO once. I think the worst is the March ram-air system that has a snorkel that goes under teh bottom lip of the front bumper- saw a couple of those hydrolock.

What I dont' know is how the CAI affects offroading- haven't been there. Snowball is a concrete and asphalt rider. :D

I've had a MAC, the quality is good, I didn't get a sticker on either MAC system I had.

More so than anything I am looking for gas milage. I was home in PA over the weekend and gas was over 3 bucks a gallon! (luckily I was driving my rental that got 25 mpg, see my threads to find out why i had a rental in the first place). Horsepower and torque are great, dont get me wrong, but I need gas mileage more than anything at this point. I have a poweraid throttle body spacer and it has definitly given me horsepower and torque and seems to be a bit of a gain in gas mileage.

No ill effects to this day. Just temporary. It went away after I coasted down teh mountain most of the way. I guess it dried off. The other option is to carry multiple DRY filters with you just in case. The filter must have gotten wet so it caused a mild hydrolock.

put a cai on my explorer last night. woke up this morning to a torential storm. when i get home tnight hopfully ill be replying to say all worked well. if not ill be re reading how to fix a hydrolock.

Two words for you. "SNORKEL IT"!!!!

snorkeling her is a project for another day when i can do it right! for now the CAI works great tho. was going oregon trail style at somepoints and didnt have a single problem. best part? only cost me $50 bucks. jsut got an adapter plate and epoxied it to the air sensor housing then clamped on the filter. workes great and is a HUGE improvement on performance. especially when letting off the cluth - you feel the difference

CAIs are all the same, you can make one out of PVC pipe, and you get the Same affect as K&N over priced crap. I had a 3" FWI i made on my GTP, and I loved it, $30 verses $200+..Its VERY easy to make and it performs just the same.

Just thought Id Add A little In site..Dont spend money on somthing you can do your self and get the same results.

OH, and i drone in Rain, puddles, Snow. everything...it was fine. Mind u it was in my finder, but water still splashed up there.

I have the MAC intake, and i go through many puddles. I guarantee it has gotten in my intake, the engine has died many times after going through puddles. After last weekend when i was hitting puddles and mudding hard, I now hear loud squeaking from the engine when i accelerate at all times. It also includes some bubbling sounds. Im worried needless to say, but i think its directly attributed to the air filter getting wet and taking in water

Ive popped the hood to see the entire intake with filter soaking wet. Im regretful, I dont know what is wrong with my engine
