I recently went camping and came across some wet trails that had some nice solid mud ( nothing that i would for sure get stuck in )

After playing in the woods a bit and then again in this muddy pit on my way out i stopped to put it in park to switch over my manual hubs before getting back on the highway to go to the campsite and I notices my engine was revving at about 1200-1500 rpm in park and neutral... This had never happened before. I did get the engine quite wet playing around in this trail.

Could this have had anything to do with the engine revving high like that or is it something else i should be aware of?

Thanks if anyone has any leads or ideas. I have read alot on this site but nothing i could really find to help me with this issue. I turned off the truck and then restarted it after awhile and it seemed to be better but i dont like waiting til things fail to fix them id like to have a head start on any possible issue this may be leading too.

My 92 XLT did something like this, mainly in really cold upstate NY weather. But also in the summer. I never found a fix for it, but lubricating the throttle linkage usually helped a little. Just some plain old WD-40 or similar.

you got some balls going through mud puddles with an open intake filter like that.

Also I noticed your throttle splash cover is missing. its job is to protect the throttle linkage from stuff like that.

thanks for the idea. i will wd 40 it and hope it doesnt come back. I never had it happen in the winters here and they are cold. I have a filter wrap for it but took it off to see if any water got on it even though it prob doesnt make much of a difference but i was worried after i saw how much muddy water came up from underneath :S i did take my throttle cover off cuz i lost the screws for it and havent found any to match yet. All of this came from the bottom though so im not sure if the cover woulda done anything in this situation.

i gave my trcuk a solid rinse once i got home at the car washed and washed down the engine with the low pressure wand.

im kinda glad i didnt have the stock intake though because the water woulda went up and right into the intake nehind the grill and right into my air intake probably..

today i wd 40 all my throttle components and hope it doesnt start doing it more often.
thanks again

Happened to me once. plowed through a huge puddle a bunch of times. soaked the air filter and the filled the upper intake manifold with water.

doesnt sound like fun. Did it do any bad damage? ( getting water in the intake manifold )
