In short...I'm sick of it. Squeaks when offroad...poorly built....stupid A/C and radio controls in the rear i've never used...

Has anyone remove or maybe even swapped one of theirs before?

Do any of the "standard" center consoles have two cupholders? Are they pretty well built? I.E. no squeaks?
I saw a really nice one in an FX4 ranger that I like alot. Simple yet useful looking.

However, the main reason I want to do this is I plan to convert to a manual tranny and maybe even manual T/C when my auto tranny finally goes and I need the extra space that the console currently takes up now.

Thoughts on this?

Also, anyone interested in a trade for one of the "low" series consoles?

what color may your high serier console be?

mine may be tan.

i may be interested.

It's grey.

Looking for one that's grey, by the way.

Unless it can be painted or something....

Mine's grey, but out of a 92. I'm almost positive though that it will bolt right up in a 95 (someone want to back me up on that?). It's in perfect shape and is the two-cupholder type. It is identical to the "low series" consoles on the later models. Interested in trading? What shape is your console in?

peace

Mike

Hmmm can anyone confirm this? My explorer is 2nd gen and I didn't know that it would bolt up. Well the console itself is in good condition. It seems to be loose on the right side making the squeaking sound and the plastic lining the inside (I have no factory CD changer) is taken out to mount a CB, but I'm sure I can put it back in. It also still has the "tissue box" with a change holder in it. One of the radio changer connection buttons is broken (probably contacts though) but you'll probably just cover that whole thing up anyway. Do you have pictures of what your console looks like Mike?

If you want an OEM, go for the FX4 console. Check and see if it is offered in other Rangers. I'm sure you could get one from a rolled or wrecked Ranger at a good price if you do not want to spend the money on a new one. I'm sure it is made pretty much the same way an X console is made, so it probably will squeak (I'm assuming).

Have you checked aftermarket consoles?

If you want tough, I'd go for a Tuffy console. Rugged, well built, lot of room, and will protect your stuff.
Dead Link Removed

Steelhorse has some nicer looking consoles that are probably just as well built.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, figured I would just throw them out there.

Thanks, I will call Tuffy tomorrow, as for Steelhorse I couldn't find anything that would custom fit an explorer.

I got a small tan console with a rosewood lid that I will sell. I had this in my '92, after I sold it. It goes in front of the existing console(over the hump) for explorer with automatics. It doesn't hold that much things, but it really looks great.
