When I am above 80 mph or so on the freeway, the mirrors are shaking, the center console shakes VIOLENTLY (unless the road is very smooth), the wheel shakes slightly and its pretty loud and annyoing. I just had new tires put on and the wheels were balanced. Should I have them checked again ? Is there any problems any of you guys have had that are similar and had them fixed ? The center console is my biggest gripe, its AWEFUL!!! Does something in there come loose ? am I stuck with this ?

I just got some white lithium grease in a spray can and sprayed down every hinge and pivot in the rear hatch and got rid of every squeak the X had, I strongly recomend this. It was a green bottle of white grease and its a Godsend.

My guess is to have them checked again--- do you have any idea of what the tire pressure is set at right now?

well my first guess would be the tires, but since their new and the shake doesn't start till after 80 mph, its probably worn parts

tire vibration usually begins around 55 mph if its a balance issue

I would suggest jacking the frontend up and pulling the wheels from side to side and up and down to see if any parts have any give in them, some parts that may be worn could be tie-rod ends, bearings, balljoints

also look at the sway bar and see if anything may have come undone

another to look at would be u-joints, grab the drive shaft and rotate it back in forth and check the u-joints for movement

if you can't find anything wrong yourself or don't have time to do this most Shops that do alignments can perform suspension checks for a small sum of money and then they can give you an estimate right away as well

cool, thanks guys !!

my 98 4.0 sport did the same thing at 80 it would shake and vibrate. as an upgrade i bought a k&n air intake and i waz messing around wid it on a back road and i waz doing about a 100 and it wasnt shaking anymore. u could give it a chance

I still haven found what is wrong with it, its weird it does it on most surfaces, but when the freeway gets smooth, the ride smooths out pretty nice. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution.

Mine shook hard over 70 once but then it went away and I got a ticket for doing 70 in a 55... but the mud that was causeing the vibration came off...

Check your swaybay endlinks. I've got a similar problem and think I've narrowed it down to that. My endlinks are shot which allows for a lot of play and vibration in the front end.

I had the same problem. For me it is a bearing in my trandfer case that is about to go.

check all your lugnuts

Is it a humming type or a rattle type vibration? What's the pitch?

How many miles? Mine did that and it was the Radius Arm bushing, passenger side. I did them both. 147K miles.

It just turned 150k miles. I have not done any suspension work recently other than shocks, struts, align. and tires. Its not really a rattling sound as much as it is a slight steering wheel chatter and a strong rattle in the center console. I will do the radius arm bushings this weekend, are they hard ? did you just use rubber, or did you go with poly ?

Does mine have radius arms since it is a 96 ? I know the 92 and 96 suspension is completley different, I have the torsion bar front, not the i-beam.

Mine Shakes Violently Starting At 60mph- 75mph. Then It Is Smooth.when I Put New Tires On It, It Stopped Somewhat, But Still Shakes.
It Has Done That For 50k Miles. I Wish I Could Figure Out What The Problem Is. :fire:

Not sure about your wheels, but I had factory steel, and 3 of the five were out of true. I replaced them, did the bushings, and it feels like a much newer vehicle. Just a thought. Might also want to look at the tightness of the front wheel bearings.

I feel your pain Jason, its a total bummer, I hate it !
