I just went for an oil change and my oilcap was hard to remove so the guy put high temp silicone grease on the threads. I was wondering if it would get in the oil or hurt anything?

if it wasn't smothered on, it shouldn't be getting into the oil to begin with. Atleast not enough to cause any issues.

if it was smothered on, clean it off.

Should be fine, though. I'm sure it's a high-temp grease that's used during assembly of an engine, so that it doesn't run dry when it gets fired up for the first time.

Why not just put some motor oil on it? Are you sure something isn't wrong with your cap or tube? I can't ever seeing an oil fill cap that needed lubrication because it was hard to remove...

I asked why he didn't use motor oil. He said it won't stay on long enough. That's what I would have used.

I've never seen a cap on so tight that it couldn't be removed... They can't be over-torqued because of the torwque limiting device installed on them so that you CAN't over-tighten it.

If he charged you for it, I'd insist it was a shady practice. They're not in the business to help out the customer out of the kindness of their hearts. I'd also insist that they remove said lubricant unless they have proof it's been tested to be compatible with the materials used in the filler neck or the cap materials, and long-term exposure could result in degradation of the materials. If I was having a bad day, I'd be irate and insisting a new cap as well....

Fuggin' oil change places... Just do the damn oil change (and do it RIGHT!) and send the customer on their way.

No they didn't charge and my cap is stuck. Its not a threaded cap its a 1/4 turn one with a channel and an o ring on it. Pretty simple design, I can't see with its sticking. It's a 2001 OHC engine. Instaed of the cap coming of the tube undoes from the valve covers. The tube connect the same way the cap does. I was wondering why both the cap and tube unscrew?

Is that a stock cap?
