I'm not an off-roader, but I am on my 4th Explorer. These things are great, eh? Anyway... has anyone tried Mastercraft or Cooper (same mfg). I have Michelins now, but just ain't in the mood to spend the extra money right now. Was really considering Continental, but have read several posts elsewhere that say they won't hold a balance.
Thanks for any feedback.

I had Mastercrafts on an s-10 of mine. They were all in all pretty good. They lasted ok. But in Mastercrafts defense...I don't know if I ever rotated them so I'm sure I could've gotten more life out of them. The only one that was really bad was the rear left (open diff's are great!). I drove alot on them probably around 350 miles a week. I wasn't dissapointed in them at all. Don't know about the coopers....i'm going to put pro-comps on mine (the AT has a 50000 mile warenty btw) and they are made by cooper....i hope they're good!!

I had cooper's on my old 92 and they have over 50000 and still going strong:D

I've got Chapparal's (another Cooper made off-brand) on my Explorer. 35K miles and expect to make 50K.

I also highly recommend Cooper tires. I had a set on my last explorer and they lasted a long time and had good all around traction. The only reason why I didn't recently go back to Cooper tires is because i wanted to see what all this hype over BFG is about so i got a set of the A/T ko's.

They are #2 on consumer reports right behind Toyo.

for the record, if you are trying to decide between Cooper and Mastercrafts, id go with which ever one is cheaper. they are the exact same tire, same tread compound, etc. etc.
