Grade Climbing

Soon, we are taking a trip down to disneyland in anaheim. We would have to go up some grades, and that is where the question lays.

The 1989 Bronco II we would use has overdrive dead in it, so we just use drive. Are there any problems with this? Is overdrive better to go up a grade? Should we fix the transmission before leaving, or no problems should happen?

u shouldt use OD to climb a hill, it is for highway use. drop to 1st ir stay in drive to climb the hill

Personally I wouldn't take the risk of attempting a road trip in a vehicle that has a known transmission problem. The OD failing is just the first step in the demise of the rest of the tranny. Now to answer the question about pulling hills, you should always use direct drive when pulling any significant grade (as well as when opperating in town at speeds below 45mph). This will extend the life of your tranny as well as the rest of the powertrain.
