Hey, guys, searched and couldn't come up with anything useful... I have a co-worker with an '03 Mountaineer. His hood release won't pop the hood. I tried grabbing the cable to pull it a little further, but it still won't pop... There is some movement in the latch itself if I push down on the hood, but it just won't pop... I also reached up behind the grille and was able to feel the cable moving in and out of the outer jacket, but I can't get enough purchase on that end of the cable to pull it either.

Any ideas, tips, or tricks? He needs an oil change, but they can't do it until he can get the hood open...

Thanks!

-Joe

have someone push down on your hood when you pull the release, and pull up after. i had the same problem when i had the blazer. if that dosent work, try pulling up, and if even after all that, it dosent work, find a way to push over the hook on the latch. hope this helped!!

Also try to spray some wd40 on the latch. I had a similar problem and wd40 did the trick for me.

Thats the ticket. Same thing happened to me. Get something to reach in through the grille and yank on the release until it opens. I found a flat piece of metal and bent the end on a 90degree and used that slid in through the grille to get it open. Once you have it open, soak the latch with lube. it won't happen again

And how exactly would one go about doing that without being able to open the hood in the first place?
