Just recently I've noticed that when I get in my truck, start it, put it into reverse or drive, that I have to wait a couple of seconds before taking off. If I do not wait...the truck will start moving while applying the gas, but almost seems to "grab" a couple second later. It's quite odd. Any Ideas???

Thanks
Shaun

Might be a problem similar to one I had a while back: dirty valve bodies. You can try pouring some tranny detergent (don't know the exact product, saw a Lucas ad yesterday) and see if it frees the valve bodies up.

I will try that....thanks.

Do a governor valve search

governor valve sticking will cause that - search and you will find tons of info.

will this eventually cause a lot of harm?

I would get it fixed asap

With the trans in the explorer I would have any problem checked and repaired asap to forestall further problems. Waiting may make a 100 repair into a 1500 repair. The governor regulates prtessure other symptoms exist which may not be noticed.

I would get it fixed asap, just in general I fix everything asap- no sense waiting with the possibility of other damage... and there is always something else that needs attention - no matter what vehicle you own. Pay now or pay (in most cases) more later.

see but it only happens if I hit the gas as soon as I shift into gear....If I shift, hold the brake for a couple secs...and then go....it's fine.

There is always a slight delay when you shift from P to R or D before the tranny is engaged. Mine takes a second or 2. If I put it in gear and hit the gas, there is a delay (engine revs) and then the tranny clunks and off I go. I don't do it often, cause it will probably kill the tranny.

Have you double checked you fluid level when hot on a flat surface. Make sure fluid is at proper level, still pink and not burnt.

This has been happening to me lately as well. It has always taken mine a long time to engage into either D or R...

Lately it has been like the following:

Gas applied at dead stop, torque converter grabs then engages firmly. Now this sounds like normal ops. but I have never been able to fell the slipping then grabbing at take off before.

Maybe time for a trans flush...

yeah..I know there is always a delay...but it seems like it has got longer. I will double check the fluid though....thx.

I got the same problem...Don't Know what the heck is going on...probably some issue with my transmission
