Horn Beeps On Exit

If you get out and don't close the door all the way, it won't honk. I do this when I stop to pick up my mail from the community mailbox. A bit of a nuisance but not a big deal.

Ya this drives me nuts too, I get the need to alert upon driver exiting when vehicle running but honks when passenger exiting with driver and key fob still in vehicle is not safety related.

When the passenger door opens the system should check and see the fob is still within range, or the drivers seat sensor is showing a person still in the seat, so no need to sound alert.

Mine honks if you walk away with the FOB in your pocket and the car is running.

two honk on exit...try hitting the LOCK on egress.

At the Gas Pump I always Shut off the engine,..but then push START (twice) again to turn on the ACCESSORIES. I like to RESET the Trip Meters, listen to the radio, etc.
So The Pump Clicks off at FULL,...and as I exit the vehicle (I keep the Key/Remote in my pocket),..if I close the Driver door,...the Horn honks twice.
I found that if I simply push the LOCK button on the door, then when I close the Driver door,...NO HONK.
I suggest the Twice Honk is to remind you that the Car is UNLOCKED, and the Ignition is still on.
With the Key Fob in my pocket, re opening the door is seamless.
This is my new routine. and no annoying "Twice Honk".
,...

In Canada I believe all the locking trigger mechanisms have been remove so you have to physically keep your hand on the trigger. I have also read that this is also happening in some of the U.S. states, particularly the Eastern ones. As for the 'Honk' eliminator scenario you mentioned, I may give that a try instead of just partially closing the door.

Exactly!

Twice honk has two scenerios...

I should test out the 1st scenario, too..where the vehicle is left running upon exit; and see if pressing the inside driver door lock button (I think it locks ALL doors) stops the twice honk when the driver door is closed; and the key fob in in my pocket.
..and try it with key fob in the cup holder; 3rd scenerio
I'm not sure about "locking trigger mechanisms" being removed, at least not in California; where MORE restraint is considered the solution.

I don't have the Explorer but with the MKT I get the same horn honk when I get out and close the driver's door with the engine running. I do not, however, get the same thing when a passenger exits and closes the door with me in the vehicle.

What are "locking trigger mechanisms"?

The little thing that allows you to lock the handle lever in place for a 'hands free' fill. I haven't seen a station around here for years that still has them. I improvised one time by using the gas cap to hold the lever open but the station attendant said to remove it or they would shut off the pump.

Move to Oregon or New Jersey and they pump your gas for you. I hated this idea when I first moved to Oregon but now I wouldn't want it any other way. Never had a really bad experience, 99% of the gas station attendants are very friendly and careful with filling the tank. Sorry - and now back to our regular scheduled program...

I humbly recant my suggestion that "Pressing the Driver door lock on egress " will stop the Twice Honk when the door is closed.
Either my ignition was full OFF, or there was some other human error in my first claim.
I'm with Peter,..in that I just Don't Fully Close the Driver Door; (if the engine is running, or the Accessories are on.
Too bad.:thumbdwn::(

We need a fix for this. Something like hitting a button before exit. I hate turning off the cold car when I run into a store, get out lock it and then restart it. Sucks.

Also another problem i seem to notice is if you had the car on defrost and then turn off the car and upon starting it back up the climate system is basically paused until you push the defrost button 2 times. I normally start driving and forget until the windows start to fog up and I have to push the button twice. What is that all about?

Some stations in my area, most notably Go-Mart, have removed this locking device. I tend to avoid them because I want to lock it and let it fill itself, especially when it's -14 F out. I don't need my hands frozen.

I wouldn't mind attendants filling my car if they didn't scratch the side of the vehicle or run gas down my fender. I can't believe they actually pay people to do this. Seems very inefficient.

I hate the horn honk it goes off even if i lean outside

This 'horn honk on exit' feature only began with the 2013 models I believe. The 2011 didn't have it. I had a 2011 Ltd and this feature was not on it.

2015 Explorer. But which model? Base, XLT. Limited, Sport? This could make a difference in some cases when addressing concerns you may have later.:)

2015 Explorer Sport

I have the same problem with the horn honking, very irritating. My garage is very tight and I pull out my Explorer to load stuff into it. Always honks. Hitting the door lock when getting out of the vehicle does not work, so that suggestion is invalid. Some have suggested that it is because kids could be in the car, statistically, very few people have kids. I wish they would do away with most child proof crap. Parents need to take responsibility for their children. Some things go forward with progress, but others go backward.

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
The horn will always sound if the engine is running, no key fob in the car and the door is closed. My simple solution that I use is to not fully close the door. Works like a charm. It has nothing to do with anyone being in the vehicle. It senses that there is no key fob inside and the engine is running.
Do you still have the 2002 Explorer? If not, time to update your profile. If you have both, you can add one of them to your signature. Thanks.
