Horn Beeps On Exit

So, what Your selling, is instructions on how to turn the double honk off, and We take those instructions to a dealer and have them do it through IDS ?

I modify the vehicle programming which has to be loaded via IDS.

From the dealer programming page on my website which is linked in the double horn honk page it says, "I provide a required programming file and instructions for the dealer to follow using their IDS software and when completed the options will now work." In this case it would be disabling the double horn honk.

I was wondering, would it be possible for this to become a setting that once the programming is performed, it can be turned on and off, like the daytime running lights, should someone want to put it back to the way the car was originally designed? The reason that I ask, is because as you describe it, I would be turning off a safety feature that was installed by Ford. If I were to sell the car, I would want to turn it back on for the next owner, for that very safety reason. In our litigious society, if anything were to happen after I sold the car, it might come back to me, because I was the one that had the modification done.
Thanks

No it can't be a setting that I am aware of. If you want it switched back have the dealer load the original programming back into it.

For the 13-15s what would be helpful is if someone with an export model (middle east, europe or russia) that has push to start (intelligent access) has the double horn honk or not.

So the only way to fix this issue is to order that patch from jmr and have a dealer upload it?

Well that isn't the only way. You can disconnect the horns, add a cutoff switch in the horn circuit etc.

Well looks like I might be contacting you soon then. Only had the truck one day and having the horn honk at 6 am while taking out the trash does not make your neighbors love you. Haha

jmr061; the Middle East exports (I tried from Saudi Arabia & Qatar) have the double honk. It is at least present in the 2013-15 Explorer & 2013-2014 Edge/MKX. I believe also late build 2012 models have it.

Thank you for that info...not what I wanted to hear though.

I find it hard to believe that a Ford dealership would take this file and make a change to a safety feature that Ford programmed into the IDS. Unless someone has friend that works at a Ford dealership that would do it on the sly.

I find it hard to believe that you call a double beeping horn blowing when you exit the car, with the engine running, a safety feature. To me, it is an annoyance. Do you think that the driving public is so stupid that they don't know that the engine is running when they exit the car?
On a minus 10 degree day, with a passenger in the car, I might need to get out of the car to put a letter into the mailbox, or go into the post office to purchase stamps. Am I supposed to leave my passenger sitting in the car without the heater operational for 15 minutes?

Stupid?? No but there have been owners on this forum that have stated they have left their car running accidentally thinking they shut it off. One had enough run out of gas because they left it on all day long.

So it can happen. Heck I've even hit the start/stop button but apparently not hard enough and it kept the vehicle on however I did catch it as I was exiting and heard the engine still running.

Mistakes do happen.

Hell, have you seen the crap FIAT is going through now?? People not smart enough to pay attention that their vehicle is not in park. And when it isn't in park, it will not shut off yet they still get out and the car starts rolling away..

I get the honking when the driver gets out with the fob, I hate it but I get it.

What is wrong is I can be seated in the car with it running holding the fob in hand when the passenger gets out first and it beeps twice.

Thats simply BS and poor programming.

The Cellular Remote Start kit also has the beeps when starting or locking, so at 0500hrs on a cold morning when your going to work and everyone else is sleeping you have wake everyone with beeps if you want a warm vehicle, or use the fob.

User option to turn it off should be available.

There have been people that have started their cars, in the attached garage, with the remote starter that has caused the family to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Maybe the automobile manufacturers should have carbon monoxide sensors installed on the cars, that shuts down the engine when the detector senses a pre determined CO2 level. Heck, they could even have the car call 911!!!
How about the automobile manufacturers abandon the push to start button, and go back to using real keys? That will solve a multitude of problems. To me, it is simple.... eliminate some of the advanced driver assist technology, and put the drive back in charge of starting the car, along with shutting it off. Or, the other way, would be, just like your lawn mower. If you aren't seated in the seat, the engine stops.

I don't like the double honking either. My point was that you have someone that has found a way to disable the double honking with a software patch. The kicker is that you must buy the software from this person and then take it to a Ford dealer and have them go into the IDS and change the software. Not going to happen unless you have a friend or relative that works at a Ford dealer will do it without the dealership and Ford knowing.

The 2016, if equipped with keyless ignition, will shut down automatically after a period of extended idle. I sometimes remote start my garaged vehicle but always open the door first using the old garage door remote which I keep in the house. Also, there is no way that CO2 should be seeping into an attached home unless it was built prior to modern building codes. My house was built in '83 and the attached garage is completely sealed off from the house. At some point people have to take responsibility for their actions.
