This may or many not work depending how your vehicle is equipped.

Thanks. I will try that one. Didn't actually watch it as thought it was same procedure as the other video.

It worked on my 16 Edge (w/SYNC3) which has the same base electrical system as the 17 Explorer so it should work.

Didn't work on mine. So will have to call dealer first, if no luck then will have to climb under dash. Turns out the code I thought I had was the stock number I suppose. As it was a 5 digit number on key fob. Thought is was as it said "save for customer records" and had a barscan. Just remembered last truck had a card in the truck manual.

Are you saying that you've had your Explorer and not gone through the documents?;) The other tag with the bar code you mentioned it just for the keys.

I went through the documents. Just that me and dealer are hundreds of miles away. Last winter on a flyout south I did some test drives and thought it over the spring, I decided I didn't need the eco so went with this one I received. Did deal over phone and digi paperwork(also mailing in originals). When I received the vehicle there just was no keyless code card in the owners manual binder.

Ok guys, I think I have found the solution. Haven't gone through all the comments so not sure if it was mentioned. I have got 2016 explorer and it sure was annoying the hell outta me.... until I found the fix, purely by accident.
so here is what you do,
1) with the engine running, exit the vehicle, with the fob still in your pocket.
2) Do NOT close the driver door yet.
3) open the rear left passenger door (the one on the driver side) and
4) Close the rear passenger door followed IMMEDIATELY by the driver door... (you can have a gap of about 1 -2 seconds between both the closures)

and...no warning horn at all...
Let me know if it works, if you guys are still struggling with it, I could put a video on youtube

It can be even easier than that.... Before you close the driver's door, take your key fob, hold up to the B pillar (front of rear door) and then close the driver door.

As I mentioned before, if I just have to hop out a sec or so I just don't completely close the door. Just one click won't set off the horn. Also several members here have used Forscan to disable this horn issue in the settings. Forscan allows modifying several settings that are not visible otherwise.
Also, please complete your registration by adding the 'Required' "Trim Level" (Base, XLT, etc.) to your profile so it appears in the margin. That can be useful info to have at times. Thank you

Just trying to figure out if they came up with a fix for this horn issue yet? One of the main reasons I bought a Ford was for the keypad, being able to exit my car without having to turn it off when I run into a gas station, etc. My 2013 Limited did NOT do this......

I'm not sure who you mean by "they" but there is a way to disable that feature using Forscan. I doubt you will see Ford do anything with it as they consider it to be a 'safety' feature. Check out this thread I found using the Forum's handy 'Search' feature; double honk disable/enable with Forscan BTW, the feature was introduced with the 2016 model.

SOLUTION....Thx. This works great to avoid without leaving car exposed. I held my fob to the pillar between the driver and rear door as I closed the driver door. NO CHIRP. While not a permanent fix, good enough to get around the design flaw.

Better yet, get yourself a bluetooth OBD adapter (I recommend OBDLink MX) using Forscan to disable honk on exist and at the same time enable secure idle, which will lock out the shifter when you leave the car running and the keys are not detected.

Welcome to the Forum.
This is not a "design flaw" but a type of security feature, annoying as it is. I was in a hurry one time and hit the Start/Stop button and exited the vehicle only to hear the double honk. The engine was still running. There have other instances where an owner thought the engine had been turned off when it was not. I believe there was an instance a while ago where a couple died due to carbon monoxide poisoning when the vehicle was left running in the garage and fumes leaked into the home.
My solution to this is simply to not completely close the driver's door when I have to jump out for a second or so. Much more convenient than having to dig out the key fob.

Peter

I bought my 2016 in 2017 used. So far, the double chirp with the engine running is the only feature I don't like! Love this vehicle, surprised at the gas mileage (better than the 2010 Fusion I had prior to this) and the room - oh the room! Great for a musician to travel around in! Thanks for all the tips. I believe my brother in law has a Forscan and can help me out big time! If not, I'll try the fob to the pillar trick. Thanks again for the great info.

That's interesting. I guess that explains why when I left the vehicle running in park for 30 minutes it shut off on its own. It has happened twice so far.

The reason yours turned OFF was probably due to the Automatic Engine Shutdown feature. See page 170 of the Manual.
For vehicles with a keyless ignition, this
feature automatically shuts down the
engine if it has been idling for an extended
period.
