I am still learning about vehicles and my SUV, so maybe this is a silly question...

When I take a left turn, there is no sound. When I take a right turn, there is a horrible screeching sound.

Does this have to do with a wheel bearing? I have heard Explorers have issues with wheel bearings needing to be replaced so this was my first thought. Could the screeching be anything else?

If it is a wheel bearing, how much does it cost to repair and how long does it take?

Thanks for any help you guys can throw this girl's way...

First thing I would check would be your brakes, since they are pretty simple compared to bearings. Is there any noise when you use the brakes? Brake pads have little metal "feelers" that rub on the rotor when they wear down, and occasionally can make noise when you turn(even if it doesn't make noise when you brake).

Next thing after that would probably be wheel bearings. I cant offer too much help on these as I have not replaced them on my explorer. However, if it is happening while turning right, it would likely be on the left side if it was a bearing.

When I first got the vehicle not too long after I would hear screeching when braking, but that has since stopped. Now the only sound I hear is when I take a right turn, there is a screeching and deeper the turn radius, the worse it is...

Since you used to hear the same noise when braking, I agree with Erik88, check the brakes first. They are easier and less expensive to do than the bearing.
