Heater blowing really HOT air even in the cold setting. I tried to turn on the A/C in regular and/or max. setting and still blowing hot air. The blend door open and close when I checked. It closed when in off setting and on A/C setting. It opens when on the heater setting. I opens and close. What could be wrong. Is it my heater control valve? Where is it located? Help. It's hot! I have to turn off the heater and sometimes open the window a little bit to cool down.

the heater control valve is in the engine compartment, near the firewall on the passenger side, just follow the heater hoses and you'll find it. Mine was only blowing cold air, I pushed on the valve control lever a few times and its been fine ever since, I think it was sticking. It is vaccum controlled, so make sure the vaccum hose didn't slip off or isn't restricted.

I checked all the hoses and connection and its fine. I noticed further that when set of a regular A/C setting (not max setting) the blend door closed but with the max A/C setting the door opens and I can see the blower running. The blend door stayed closed at all other directional setting. I can also hear the clicking sounds by the engine when set to A/C or heater settings. :(

you may have blend door problem I am not sure about it, others know more about the blend door than I do. As for the "clicking" souds, that is the A/C compersor clutch cycling on and off, nothing to worry about there.

I believe the door you are seeing is the recurculation door. That is the one where you can see the blower. the blendoor isn't visible unless the dash is out.

Blend door. Been there. Thank God It was still under warranty. Good Luck!

blend door. been there. no warranty! i,m going to jump off a bridge now. actually i have a warranty but not factory and blend door was not covered. it cost me $597 to be exact and that was a deal.

Having come close to having the blend door problem on my '95 (blown heater core) fixing the blend door isn't that hard, it's just very time consuming. I pulled the front seats out to make more room and to make pulling the console easier. you have to remove the steering column as the dash has to come out completely. the Haynes manual is actually decent in this section.

After all was said and done, I skipped a couple steps in the haynes method by not discharging the a/c and manuvering the a/c suitcase around enough to get the nuts off behind it.

The whole project start to finish took me about 10 hours to do and I was taking my time. I still managed to do during a weekend and drive the car sunday night back to school.

Thanks all. I guess I have to make an appointment to the mechanic. He will be singing "Happy Days are here Again"

hey texan, nice work. i'm impressed that you did that all yourself. you saved yourself a lot of money by doing it on your own. i'd like to do something like that but i don't have the time or the know-how. good job;)

Even if it's the blend door, you should still get COLD AIR when Max A/C is on. If you don't, you've got another problem. How often was the A/C compressor cycling? Sure it's fully charged? The air in Max should become at least marginally cooler (air temp) even if the A/C isn't working. If it doesn't, then chances are the Heater Control Valve isn't working.

this is all true. you shoud def. still get cold air on max. good luck

I would verify that the heater control valve is working properly before looking into the "nightmare blend door problem"

Mine is acting up too. Let me know what you find out. Mine sometimes takes like 20 minutes and then it suddenly switches to cold.

Good Luck,
MikeH
