Ok, here goes. After much reading and trying to trouble shoot my transfer case shift motor and replacing the motor, I still have a problem. It will not shift into 4X4 Low.

#1 Unit will engage from 2 to 4x4 high, no problem.
#2 REMOVED old motor, placed transfer into 4X4 low manually and worked fine.
#3 Ohm out speed sensor, checked fine.
#4 Did self diagnosis on computer module, got the 4 flashing red lights, all ok.
#5 "replaced shift motor with new one.
#6 Checked ( I think ) the switch in dash.
#7 4x4 high light comes on, motor transfers to 4x4 high.
#8 4X4 light low will not come on except when jumpering switch.
#9 jumpering switch does not activate transfer motor into 4x4 low
#10 Only thing left is neutral switch, any idea how to check this? Maybe jumper around at control module?

Any help guys would be appreciated

welcome to the finest forum around....your not giving much history but if the switch worked before.... unplug the transfer motor electrical connection and check with 12 volts on to two pins the yellow and orange and then reverse the wires to check for rotation the opposite way, don't touch any other pins during this test. Now you know if it's the motor or not. I would take the motor back out to perform this test. Let us know how you make out thus far.

The motor is engaging between 2 wheel low and 4x4 high. Just no 4x4 low. According to manual. x has to be stopped (speed sensor) Engine has to be in neutral ( neutral switch) before 4x4 can be engaged. Thanks

No mention in the manual of having your foot on the brake (BOO switch)? On my '92, you also have to have your foot on the brake to shift from 4H to 4L (2H-4H is, of course, "shift on the fly").

everready problem!!!!

tried the brake this morning, not the problem. Thanks

ok the easy way to see if the MLP(trasmision range sensor/neutraul switch, is working, is to fist check to see if the reverse lights work, second there are 2 easy connectors, one on the side of the tranny connected to a large leack sensor, check that first, then check he connectors on the drivers side inner fender, near the a/c compressor, and finally check the speed sensor.

Could the Neutral switch/signal have poor contact? I would press the 4x4 low while moving the shift from Drive to Neutral Maybe it would pickup the intermittant signal and make the switch. Barring that I would re-investigate the 4x4 Low switch to verify it is working.

BTW I wish more people took the time to clearly communicate their problem as you have done.

tried all the above, still not working. Any ideas on how to tell if it is the 4x4 low switch?

Just a quick thought and wasn't sure if you indicated this or not but
The T-case MUST already be in 4x4 with the dash light on before the switch to 4x4 low will work.

have you tried jumping the motor it self, take a wire with 12 volts and allpy it to the connectors on the t case, make sure you dont touch the ground though.

houston we have a problem

Well guy's, thanks. The problem is fixed. After many hours of reading and doing every test, she works!!!! I know, I must have not done one test right,Right? Ok, here goes. The red/white wire on the transfer module inside the fender well. I spliced into it and went to ground. Everything went to working except it does not have to be in neutral. So, I guess it was the neutral switch after all. Since the brake and back up lights work, I didn't think this was the problem. After reading the wiring diagram, I just decided to take a chance and ground the red/white wire on the 8 wire connector to the chasis. We now have a quick test for the neutral switch!!! So, how hard is it going to be to change the neutral switch?
