I ordered a used 5R55E from a yard in Florida for my 2002 Sport Trac, supposed to have only 62K miles on it. Got a good price, $695 shipped.
What showed up today was a 5R55S. How Ford can claim any resemblance between the two...
The case is completely different. The back where the transfer case adapter bolts on is an entirely different shape, the 5R55S has no dipstick and it has an integral instead of removable bellhousing.
The transmission was shipped from Massachusetts and by the total corrosion coverage, extremely bad on steel parts, even the plated fittings for the cooler lines are badly rusted, I'd bet it came from an Explorer or Mountaineer that took a week long bath in superstorm Sandy flood water. Probably swimming in salt water and rust inside it too.
Going to get my $ back and I'm not paying for return shipping on this piece of junk. It's so bad it should've bypassed the core pile and been sent directly to scrap.
