I wanted to take the exp down some trails near my house but theres some pretty nasty mud holes on the way in i was wondering how far up i dont want water to go so far the deepest i got it was to the bottom of the door jams im guessing the mud holes i need to go through would go up to probly the top of the fender wells, also what can i do to make it more water friendly?? thnx

FIrst thing is ditch the stock intake ducting.
There is a plastic intake from the radiator support to the airbox, for some reason Ford routed this sucker LOW and it can leak..

The stock intake can suck water just driving in Snow and rain!

Now there is a ton of stuff you can do, the basics:

-extend all your breather lines
-ditch the stock intake duct and or airbox
--cover the computer, build a tupperware box, bag, anything that wont let water in or overheat/damage the sucker
-after deep water or mud its a good idea to check fluids, wheel bearings, and hubs. Simple preventive maintenence

IF you do hydrolock the engine, dont try to crank it over....use the search button and you can find members on this site have all this stuff covered, from snorkels, to cowl induction, to drilled airboxes, etc....

If you want to get DEEP you can waterproof just about everything, wiring harness, interior, stereo, run electric fans, snorkel, I have even heard of pressurized differentials to keep water out.....
