I have a '97 w/o any of the above mentioned and really want all three. I have power locks, if that makes any difference.

I'd like to know too. I'll search and see if there is anything on this...I wanted to do it last night but I forgot what I was searching for!

You know guy I would like to know the same thing. I just purchased the Hornet 554T which has the remote start two way paging LCD system. I went over the instructions and it’s going to be a little difficult. Your going to have to have some knowledge with electrical. It recommends getting an ohmmeter to test certain wire and resistor. I just got my new ohmmeter in to accomplish this job. I am going to start this process in a few weeks I want to study the wire system and make note be for attacking this task. I am going to use my bike to get around so that way I could take my time on this project.

If any one has any suggestion on where I could tap into the ignition wires please let us know. Or if you have any other comment or some thing we should watch out for please fill free to key us in. Where open for comments and i really want to make sure I get this right the first time.

Thanks

Just installed one last weekend. Pretty easy really. My model was from BullDog security. First thing I would do is go to their website and get the wiring list for your Explorer. THIS SAVED A TON OF TIME. The rest was fairly easy. The igition wire harness is accessed below the steering wheel behind the plastic and steel pannel. I just unplugged it so I could splice wires and such easier. The Door lock wires were in the drivers kick panel. that just snaps in place. Inside there is a wad of wires running down the floorpan. Find your 2 and splice in. My system did not have the alarm feature, so not sure on that, but the bulldog sheet had the wirecodes for it.

Hope this helps.

Just get it install to your local shop. I got my Audiovox (don't know the model but you could check their web site) a year ago and paid $325 installed. Starts the car from 1000 feet away. Tells you the temperature inside the car and if you want it has a preset feature that you could start the car at a certain times everyday.

Really worth giving this one to the professionals. If you have no clue on how it's done, you'll freak out with the amount of wirings you have to do.

X-factor

Well I got experience with electrical I just want to make sure I got ever thing in order before I start so I don’t run in to any surprises.

The bulldog security site is great. Did you use their t-harness they offer for are explorer to basically unplug the start harness and plug there’s in and tap into the harness wire? And did you have to disable the factory alarm they offer that transponder box that will disable it did you use that or is your factory alarm still connected and functioning.

Thanks,

I have put in 2 BullDog's (Got them from WallyWorld for about $40+) I put one in Wifes Van (95 Windstar) and one in our 97 Subaru Legacy. Other than cramming myself up under the dash to get to the wires, it was pretty easy. I went to the website for BullDog and got a copy of the correct wire colors for each car (VERY simple and easily identified). It took me about 3 hours for the Van and the Subaru each(taking my time). I have not tried my EX, I have no real use for it myself, wife just likes it.

I tried installing my Clifford Matrix alarm system, and it was HARD! I had a wiring diagram but still ended up screwing up the brain. I got it installed after I tried to, and the place said the brain was messed up, so I ended up buying another Matrix. This time I had them install it and it worked fine. I think I paid around $165 for the install. I recommend getting it put in somewhere, but maybe Cliffords are harder then what you're all talking about...

Did you install your own stereo equipment? I've done many stereo installs and it's no problem for me. I've just never done an alarm so I wonder what your base of experiance is like for comparision (ie: if you have done stereo / multi-amp and you still found the remote starter install hard).

Yes I installed all my audio equipment. I thought since I knew that, an alarm wouldn't be much worse, but it was hard for me at least. I'm sure it depends on the alarm you get. I had an Alpine with LCD remotes that I was planning on getting put in, they quoted me $325, and this one was half that.

remote starts on an average will take the average shad tree mechanic about 4 hours to install...it is actually pretty simple! and yes, check the bulldog site...it will show you the wire colors and location...everything else is a cinch...

let me see if i remember...you got wires for

UNDER THE DASH
accessory
ignition 1
ignition 2 (if required)
starter kill switch (requires a relay)
lights (requires a relay)

UNDER THE HOOD
hood pin switch
tach (if necessary, for hard to start vehicles)
battery
horn

EVERYTHING ELSE
power locks/ windows
valet switch
led light

if you have an alarm or gonna put one in...you will need a bypass module so when you do start your car by the remote, your alarm wont go off.

Cool thanks guys for the great info.

I'm going to bye the t harness which help with the ignition wires. And transporder module which disables the factory alarm from bulldog site.

Thanks guy's i really appreciate it
