Hey guys. Bought an 03 explorer eddie bauer, 4.0L.

When I bought the car, the old owner had snapped the key inside the ignition somehow. Only way to start the car is use the snapped key. No big deal.
But when I go to unlock my door, the alarm goes off. No surprise there.

Any quick fix to just disable the anti theft system? I live in a safe neighbourhood. Not worried. Just want to be able to unlock my door in peace.

Or should I just go and spend the money and replace the ignition lock cylinder.. lol.

I disassembled the plastic around the steering column, removed the $100 key detector ring from the ignition cylinder, and zip-tied a $100 key to it. Then I tucked all that inside the plastic cover and put it all back together.

If that doesn't do what you want, there is a wire in the Vehicle Security Module which blows the horn.
Look behind the second row of seats on the passenger side and remove the interior trim. The VSM is in there. Pin 6 yellow/lt-blu is the horn blower wire. Poke it backwards out of the connector to kill it.

But why?
Because I can't find anything in the Owners Manual that even admits this beast will blow its own horn, let alone how to stop it.

People who know how are welcome to post a better way than what I have figured out.
