I just bought a 99 Mounty and there is a dinging noise that is driving me nuts. It happens when I start the truck and sometimes when Im driving. The doors are all shut tight and seat belts buckled but it keeps going. Im really not interested in fixing it, I just want to rip it out. Thanks

sounds like a defective door switch? Or seatbelt monitor, or ?

Dont really have time to fix it right now. Does anybody know where the noise comes from so I can just unplug it or pull the fuse or something? No icons are on. The seat belt light goes off when I buckle up.

May I recommend a good Audiologist, or ENT doctor? :D
My 99 Explorer had a similar problem, but I don't remember any "ringing" chimes. I had a "door ajar" warning and my interior lights would stay on for awhile after driving, and my autolocks wouldn't work. I sprayed the crap out of the door latch assemblies, with some PB Blaster, and that did the trick; (that was one year ago, still no problems). Not sure which door was the culprit, but I suspect the driver's door. I think there is some sensor that gets gummed up near the door latch mechanism.

i had a similar problem, the enterior wasn't on, but the dinger sounded like a seatbelt was unplugged or a door was open. I was able to figure out that it was the front driver door that had a faulty switch. I just mickey moused a fix by putting a felt pad (the type you would put on a chair lleg to protect hard wood floor) (just something to make the switch pushed in a little farther.) Its worked for the last 40000 miles. hope that at leasts gets you by until you can get a real fix

The chime is part of the GEM module. The air bag diagnostic monitor also has a small speaker in it that will beep if the air bag light is disconnected.
