i want to put in a new deck in my explorer but the guys at car toys said i need to rewire all my audio wires back to the front because they are all in the back along with the antenna. Also it came with a factory amp do i need to bypass that?

anyone know who to do this?

They did not do it in mine and it works fine. Get a fit kit ( a good one ), get and wiring connector, and for the love of god do not cut those wires behind the dash. Dead Link Removed there should be some information there that will help you out.

Not knocking you, but since when has the factory antenna been on the rear of an explorer? You might give those experts a hint: look at that thingy sticking straight up on the front passenger side next to the hood.

There are cheap and simple wiring kits that keep the factory plugs. If the sub and amp are stock, you have a mach system so get adapters specific to it. You can use or replace the amp & sub your choice if not blown.

There is an entire forum relating to audio:

Crutchfield sells the amp bypass kit. The amp is behind the passenger side rear panel. I got the wiring diagram somewhere and pulled my amp out of the back, and spliced into the harness. Probably not the best thing to do, there is no returning to stock now, not that I have intentions to do that, or have plans to sell it.

The premium system has an amp but no sub, the mach has 2 amps and a sub.

Thanks
i told them the antenna was in the front but they said the cord is ran to the back along with all my speaker wires.

My goal is to eventually install a 1000W amp for two 12inch subs and have my deck power door speakers

Um, they are morons, the cable goes right to the radio, find a new shop. If they are talking about the power for the motor on the antenna, I don't know, but an adapter takes care of that. Find a new installer.

There are several threads about the antenna being in the tuner in the back, for a bit more info you can read the sticky in the audio subforum, you can also do a search there for the part number for the wiring harness

Electrical architecture changed in 1995 to a "distributed system" for the Audiophile Systems. The head unit in these systems does not contain a tuner or amplifier; they were both integrated into a "Rear Control Unit", which was slightly larger than a typical Ford radio
amplifier, and bolted to the Subwoofer enclosure in the right rear quarter. This architecture applied ONLY to the Ford/JBL Audiophile system, and only for the 1995 through 1997 model years.
