I just bought a 94 XLT 4.0L and it's my 1st Explorer. I am generally pleased.

But... The temp guage doesn't work, the tach sticks sometimes and leaps in hunks of 1000 rms, and one time the fuel guage seemed to have a moment of real confusion (it has self corrected, but, do I trust it?)

Would someone describe how these guages work? I recognize that there is a sensor (t'stat, crankshaft(?), etc. and wires going to the guage. What sits in the middle of these circuits (relays?) ...
I also recognize that the temp guage issue may be an always open t'stat. I haven't put a new one in yet.

So ... am I troubleshooting 3 different problems, or 1 problem.

Thanks

Welcome to the Site. You could try using the Search feature. I'm sure this has been discussed in the past.

Remember this, all gauges are electrical. There is a sending unit and the gauge 'reads' the electrical impluse. So, I doubt if the problem would be in the wiring (hope that it isn't because tracking that down would be tough). So, most likely the sending unit is not functioning properly or the gauge itself is broken. I'm sure there are other members that have more knowledge of the subject and will chime in.

Good luck - Dave.

Thanks, Dave
The search didn't answer my question. Does anybody have a link for a wiring diagram for the 94 4.0L?
Gerry
