How do vented seats work?

Maybe there is some confusion about the seats in that the "heated seats", and the "heated/cooled seats" options are two different seats with different methods of performing their functions. The heat/cooled seats are perferated for the air flow and the other "heated only" leather is not I believe.

I guess I should have said a 'heating device' and not a mat. According to the diagram it is a 'seat cushion thermoelectric device'. I guess that heats up and the fan blows the heated air. It definitely does not seem to use the cabin air temperature as a source of actual heat. I was able to turn on the heated seats and feel the heat even though I had the A/C on.

Correct, the ventilated seats do not use the cabin air for the actual heat or cooling. However, when using the cooling function, the cool air coming out of the under seat ducts will make it's way into the fans of the seats making them seem ever cooler.

I know the seats have an actual heater in them, but I thought the seats(cooling) picks up the cool cabin air and blows it out. When my AC is on I never feel really cold air through the seats, but cool air.
