How do you clean out a clogged Heater duct?

Does anyone have procedures or pics on how to access the ducts, squirelcage, etc., in order to clean out any crap that as built up from either leaves or mice or whatever else?

I have seen posts on heater core with pics. I know the general area, and I could just work my way through it, but it would be a lot easier if I could get in and out knowing exactly what I am doing.

Any help would be great.

It's not hard to remove it.......or, just flush it.

Thanks Mark. Mine sounds like I have a clog or something when I turn on the fan. A low grumble. I saw this the thread you referenced but didn't see where the ducts or blower is located. Is it behind the heater core?

Hope the recent storm didn't affect you much.

remove the fan, its 3 screws from inside the engine bay, you will find a ton of leaves in there.

to get access to the cowl area remove the wiper arm access panel and the wiper motor, a shop vac can suck out the leaves from there, usually they build up on the passenger side right along the fender

to get access to the dash vents you have to remove various dash pieces, but I have never seen one of these clogged, just in the cowl and the blower motor.

Sorry my mistake.....I thought....you were talking about a clogged heater core......not, the air duct work.

PS.....IF you want access.........from the fan motor side:

Try removing the air filter box.

Then remove the three screws that are holding the fan on to the housing.

Thanks Mark and 410Fortune. Finished it this weekend and the area right behind the fan was stuffed with crap. A little shop vac work and it cleaned up nicely.

Removal of the entire Air Filter box is a must when pulling the fan out for cleaning!!!! Be sure to note which hoses go where on the top of th e air box too.
