How do you fix/replace this part around the glass?

Every 2nd gen truck I've seen, including our other one has this problem. Doesn't even seem to matter if you protect with high quality stuff with uv protection like 303 Protectant. But I don't know the part name or what it would even involved fixing/replacing, gotta be called window or rear glass something lol but I can't find it in the haynes manual.

You might want to see if you can find it at LMC Truck. As far as replacement goes you may want to call one of those mobile glass replacement guys and see what they would charge to install.

Problem is don't know what that part is called, I checked LMC's glass sections which included various parts for the windshield, front/rear pass glass, tailgate glass... but none for the rear side glass.

that's part of the glass if i'm not wrong. if you want to replace the rubber that goes around the window, you have to replace the window.

Some Ford dealership parts departments have websites that have diagrams for the various body parts that will give you the name of the part. It might be quicker just to call and ask.

It will be attached to the new window, it comes as an assembly- I've never seen them sold separate. Called a "body side window" and they're not cheap...

Mine has been like that for years. Would I get rid of it for that reason... not on your life. With 387k om my X, I just look at it as old war wounds.

tape up the outside edges with masking tape and spray a coat of krylon fusion on it, that should fill it in and look the same color, ,

I would have never thought of that, I'll try that soon. Yeh its just that ratty look that drives me nutz, pretty much all 2nd gens I've seen like that. And I always used 303 protectant and it still doesn't matter, fords trim just kind sucks, even the other plastic parts fade so easily even when taking care of compared to others.

Joe, What type of paint do you use for the trim? Would you have a pic of the spray can? Mine are very faded.

It was Krylon Rust Tough Semi-Flat.

Those parts on my truck are still clear coated and glossy, I polished them, still look like new. I just can't figure out what causes the rear trim on the windows to get pitted like that, I've never really seen any other truck except for 2nd gen Explorers/Mountaineers do that.

I have a buddy that meticulously used filler to smooth his out and repainted them. They looked good for 6-7 months, then he moved out of state- so I do not know how they held up after that...

I have this problem too.

Thinking that I could fix it, I started to remove all the inside trim . . . then realized it would be a huge task.

I am extremely disappointed that Ford would use such a cheap plastic......

I tried filling the pits with black shoe polish (paste) LOL. It only lasted a short while.
