I just bought this A4LD from a 91 Ranger, and I'm going to put it in my 86 Ranger. I had to swap the bellhousing because of the difference. Now i need to swap the shifter on the transmissions.

Really need help, do i need a special tool or can i remove with my tools?
Sorry about the bad picture please use your imagination.

Why do you have to remove the inner shift arm instead of changing the outer bracket? You have to pull out the pin on the left hand side of the picture. Use 2 screwdrivers simultaneously to pry it out. Replace the shift seal at the same time.

This pictures is from Glacier991's photo gallery:

The pin goes into the area where the tool is inserted in the picture. The rubber seal goes into the larger front hole in front of the brass bushing insert.

ooh, so i have to pry the pin out with two flat head screwdrivers.
Is this easy? Will it damage the pin?
What is the special tool called?

Two plain flat head screwdrivers should work. I'm not aware of a special tool that could be used, but some members have used a body work style stud gun to weld a stud to the tip, then pull it out. I had an idea about using a slap hammer with a drill or tap attachment, but I haven't tried it yet. I once broke a case trying to get that pin out, so just be very careful. The case is cast aluminum. I usually replace the pin with an ordinary nail, then bend it back into the groove of the case channel to get a better grip for future repairs.

Perfect. I will try to remove it tomorrow and take pictures.

Thank you for your help.

finally got some pictures of the shifter swap.

Here is the difference between a 86 ranger trany and a 91.

big difference here top shifter is from the 86 and the bottom is from the 91 still in the trany.
