Okay, here's a little video. Now, I don't know if I'm hearing a little bit of rocker noise, a vacuum leak, exhaust leak, or just the normal sounds a camshaft will make.

Can anyone hear anything out of the ordinary?? :banghead:

im thinking that these headers will make more engine bay noise due to the size and thinness. It also sounds like you have a leak on the drivers side (I think)

Something also sounded irregular at the tailpipe. Not cam irregular, but more like a miss.

Well sheeeot. I'll check the plugs and wires tomorrow. These new headers make finding safe routes from the coil packs to the plugs near impossible. What else? Injectors have too many miles on them. I could strip off all the exhaust and start over. Uhmm.. plugs and wires both have about 20k on them. What else could it be?

Do you have an OBD-2 Scanner availible? It could tell you if the truck was running rich or lean, as well as misfire counts for cylinders and injector faults. These things DON"T always trigger a code.

Go out at take a longer sound clip of just the tailpipe, it was too little time to get a real good listen. I could hear some of the lopiness of the E303.... and I like it!

I can scan it at my Uncle's shop. I know it's running lean cause of my dyno print out. I've emailed Brian about getting the chip re-tuned.

I have a feeling that, 1) There is a small exhaust leak on the driver's side. and 2) I may be getting a tiny bit of rocker to valve cover contact which is affecting the valve(s) opening and closing.

When I first did the cam swap I was having a problem with mis-firing. It was cylinder #1 and #5. The rocker on #5 was preventing the valve from opening all the way and it was also affecting cylinder #1. I really need to strip it back down to the heads and rebuild I think.

Let me get another sound clip real quick.

It might be my imagination, but since you mention it, it does sound like there could be some metal-on-metal contact, somewhere. I read your thread about air-hammering the valve covers to make them work.

Are there taller covers that will clear the alternator and intake? Our heads have the std. sm block ford bolt pattern, so any cover will bolt up. What are the guys at corral.net running with 94-95 Stangs that have roller rockers?

Also, exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors can cause problems, as the EEC-V relies HEAVILY on their input.

The ones that tmosko tried looked like they were pretty close to fitting. (They didn't, cause they hit the alt.) But it looks like a little convincing and they'd reform. :hammer:

The problem is... it's not the height of the valve covers.. but the width. The rocker was hitting on the side of the cover. Since the sheet metal ones wrap around the outside of the valve cover bolts... they should work awesome. Just a matter of getting them to fit, or finding some that will fit.

Also, keep in mind that I have not yet reset the computer after the header install and it's probably still learning the new air/fuel mixture etc. :smoke:
