Well, simply said, i was given a 97 ranger XL with only 135000 kms. After iv been driving it for about 2 weeks (after dumping 2 grand 2 get it certified) the timing belt snaps, so i brought it in to only have more stuff break on me (or so they say).. so grand total is about 2700? cdn. my question is... how much further should i go? what would u guys do... should i sell it and get a 4x4? is it worth keeping?

dump it.

By the time you fix it, you will have spent about what it's worth. If nothing else went out you'd have spent about the same as having bought one in good condition. If it's running now, and nothing obvious still wrong, trade it in on
something else and you should get about $2,500-3,000 for it.

sell it and get a explorer, lol.... funny thing is you can get a 2nd gen ex with 4x4 eb or limited in the autotrader for 3-4 grand x|

was rolled over once, 141000 kms, V6 3.0L std.
everything worked great on it, still does
asking 1100 or 1300 with replacement roof
call ....... <--- add in a local website. i smell a future project?

I'd say get rid of it too and get another truck (ex/mounty/ranger/b-series). Get a 4X4. :D

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be without one. You may have or you can see many pics around this forum of explorers and rangers 4wheeling, the stock 4wheel system on them are good, my one explorer I had, had bad street tread one winter and didn't get stuck at all even in heavy snowy situations.

4x4 is what you need everywhere XD did you check out that 89 chev with the vette motor i showed you the other day corey? that would be sweet.

sweet, but im trying to get myself decent gas milage as well as a little fun once in a while.. since this is going to be my day 2 day truck (and im road tripping all of nothern ontario this summer) i want something dependable

Don't know if your devoted on sticking with a ranger, only ranger I ever really sat in for rides was an 88xlt so don't know if they're rides are like the ex's but I love long rides in my ex's they have a nice comfortable ride for the most part and also great in offroad situations, with the 4.0 I think we get around 20mpg I think most 3.0's get 22mpg.

something big for him is that he wants smth that he can put his sled in the back of...mainly a truck. other than that i think he should get a 2nd gen ex.

the olderish f150's had a 300 straight 6, not a v6, take a look at the autotrader for prices, i think their around 4-5 grand. could be wrong.

Lets just say after 3 auto, 1 manual tranny, 1 tcase, 3 rear ends, few ujoints, few axle shafts, 1 motor, ect. I still own it and am planning on keeping it.

D.E.D. auto sales has a 97 f150 for 5,200, doesnt say if its 4x4 or what engine, number is 692-7111 or 677-7111, their located in lively. repo plus has a 94 f150 with only 61000km for 3500, again, doessnt say if its 4x4 or what engine.number is 507-8061 or 688-6616 there. in the bargain hunter theres a "94 f150, runs excl, gd work truck, or for parts, 400 obo 694-5804" and "95 f150,ext cab, gf running cond $2500 as is" "96 ford 1/2 tonne mint cond, 157k, 4,000 obo" "98 ford f150 ext cab auto,v6 4.2L,370k,box liner, 3rd door, truck cap, rough cosmetics,gf work truck or winter vehicle, cat converters are partially plugged, 1500 firm, call after 6:30,855-4953", theres a pic and it doesnt look bad...lots of km on that one...
