need to settle a bet without actually trying it...

I personally think you should just try it. :D

And the candidates for this year's "Darwin Awards".... ;)

How fast did the officer say you were going?

You could calculate a pretty good estimate by figuring in the gear ratio, rpm, and tire size. Plenty of web sites have little calculators for these kinds of equations.

25mph then 50mph as I fell off the cliff.

If you try that, you are definetly gonna flip your truck so make sure you have a camera on hand.

the answer is roughly how fast you can go in 1st gear.

I agree

Let me know when you do this I wanna come and watch

I think its between 20-35 MPH. I've had our '02 stuck and spinning in reverse it wouldn't go over a certain speed. At the time I wasn't concentrating on that so I can't really remember. And it can do faster than that in first gear :D

While you go try it, glimpse at the odometer for a sec if its going backwards. I always wonder about this.

They don't roll backwards....

up hill shouldn't matter, rev limiter is what will determine your max speed in reverse, as it would in first.

just put it up on jackstands and put in reverse like in Ferris Buellers day off.

Call me stupid but i've tried it! I did 45 mph before i got really scared, because the slightest flinch would roll it. Stupid....but fun.....

The speedometer is electronic, and is fed by a speed sensor insead of a speedo cable. Since the signal is electronic, the only way the odometer would turn backwards in reverse would be if it was specifically designed to do so.

If you try it, you'll find that the odometer will either do nothing or continue to roll forward.
