What i ment is how good is it for offroading

Well i didn't bileve that they could tip over as easy as everyone said they could until it happened to me...yesterday. so what happened was i was doing a donut (yeah!) on stones and it was going all good ya know? till it happened i hit a rough spot and ....it got on 2 wheels (the 2 right wheels) (front wheels were turned to the left) and i was thinking OH SHI* BUT i remembered all the Offrading and racing games that i play on PC and Xbox and i remembered that if you turn the wheels the other way you can bring it back to all 4's so in that split second i went to grab for the wheel and jammed my knuckle on it so hard it broke my middle finger and i got it back on all 4's. now i know you guys are gonna think OH Retard! JACKASS! well i learned a lesson from and and even as i am typing this i am shakeing from it. so i learned my lesson and am gonna just stick with offroading (gonna try it soon) rather then being a showoff and doing donuts in a tall ass truck that tips easily.

Now back to my question i went to you tube and searched Ford Explorer offr oading and all it was showing was the regular 4 door explorer with the non off roading tires (like rounded for only highway driving) and they were allways getting stuck (well not all ways but most of the time) and needed to get pulled out. so to my question

I have a Ford Explorer Sport (yah 2 door)
here are the specs of the truck.

its got 10 1/2 inches of clearance on the front Axle
7 inches clearance on the back axle

Its got General Grabber AW tires
the tires are 10 inches wide
and are 30 inches from top to bottom

the truck has a 4.0L V6 (its pretty good in my opinion)
Auto 4w Drive
4x4 hi
4x4 low

so what do you guys think this thing can do?

oh if you cant tell i don't really know a whole lot about cars/trucks thats why im here i hope to learn something before i go out and make an ass of myself like the stupids on you tube.

if you need any other info ill go check.

Search the forum.. There are plenty of 2nd gen sports that are offroaded on a continual basis.. They do perform well with modification via suspension lift or body lift.

that truck can be an awesome offroad vehicle. First off, I'm glad you learned your lesson, donuts are BAD :nono: in anthing taller than a car. Anyway, those General's suck for offroad, if you want a good tire for both on and offroad look at the BFG AT's, if you want a little more argessive get the MT's.

Look up TT lift and AAL and shackles in the forum search. you will find tons of information on how to lift your gen 2 on a low budget.

Welcome to the forum, I'm glad you got away with only a broken finger it could have been much worse.

well........bad news. i got tired of waitin for somone to post and i went out off roading anyways. auctally i went river running (thats what a guy told me i did) and it was going good the rivier was only around a foot deep until (meh) i ran into a deep spot that i didnt see when i was scoaping out the river. auctally thats the one spot i didnt check where i was gonna drive and my friends were like dude turn around so i went to turn it around and got it stuck on something weather it was a log or rock i have no idea and then it was stuck. i saved the front end and all the electronics and the engin but the inside (seats/floor) are tottally ruined. the only way i could get it out was to call my friends dad who was the only other person with a good enough truck to get back there and get it pulled out. he had a dodge. when he got out he had 2 big ass long ass chains and there was no place to hook it around the front so i got my dad out there and he chained it up to something around the wheel and the dodge gave and average tug and the ford was stuck good so the he hammered down and broke something on the wheel and now it don't turn with the other wheel (i cant remember what broke my dad told me though) and some other stuff was bent so now its up to around $150 to get that all fixed. something i learned though it all 4 wheels dont spin in 4wd! only the front left and back right spun when it reality i needed the other 2 wheels to spin. but i got it out and no one was hurt and the truck still runs (though it will need the gas tank drained cause it got some water in it).

oh on a side note this was my dads truck not mine and as my punishment for doing this i half to go live with my uncle in Nevada for a while (i live in ohio) but i dont really mind it cause ill probbly be able to go screw around there more than here.

LOL ya i would kill my kid if he did that then again i should be dead with some of the stuff i did in a buddys jeep when i was young :)

Well..when you start to slip usually the wheel that can be free spins unless you have the limited slip then that helps, do some searching on here and you'll learn about the whole stock 4X4 system. Plus you should have had your dad with you when you did it or had your own truck.

Wow. Never offroad someone else's vehicle. Unless that someone is avis, hertz etc....

sounds like you need...lockers, a lift, mud tires..and some brains. If you search you can find results for the first three..the last one your SOL.

damn, did the engine stall when you were in the water?
i remember watching a video on youtube davidsfarm or something like that, a guy abusing his wifes 99 explorer running through rivers and hills.

and don't try to go BIG with 4x4, since you just started, start from small mud puddles to long rock trails.
