Yup, cut the radiator support off, open the floor to access the 02 sensors/transmission stuff and you can have the entire drivetrain out in less then a day
Really easy to pull the drivetrain out of a totalled truck......
I did all this work myself with no helper

Of course I have pulled a few drivetrains and I am quite familiar with the Explorer trucks, but this was the first time I pulled the engine and trans together and also my first gen II drivetrain. Make sure you drain the transmission, I kinda forgot

It took every single rag I had, alot of de-greaser, some cardboard, and about 4 rolls of paper towels before the floor was no longer an ice rink...I think I spilled 8 quarts of slippery ATF = MESS
I pulled the drivetrain from my rolled 96 5.0L and then pulled the drivetrain from my high mileage 96 5.0L and then got to work installing the low mileage drivetrain into my good 96 truck with a few goodies along the way...
All this right after my 6 month conversion putting a 97.5 5.0L drivetrain into my 88 BII
FUN TIMES!!! I have not had to do any major work on either truck since

the 5.0L and 4R70W trans RULES
Now is the time for a cam/headers/trasfer case conversion while its out!
Thanks for posting that thread Josh
