- '99 EB 4x4 "Herc" RIP
Turned in my '99 EB since it started making funny noises on startup last week and I had 35,850 miles on it (warranty about to go out).
The dealership located the problem; said it was the starter but they wouldn't cover it since it was grinding itself out because the casing was filled with sand and mud and they won't cover offroad "abuse".
They want $260 to fix it which convinced me that I need to do the job. I've replaced many starters before and on older motors it used to be an easy job.
Is it still an easy job on these new SOHC's? Why would it cost $260 to do it? should I be able to do it myself this weekend?
