How many ohms??

Hey guys, I need help. How many ohms does the factory JBL sub is rated?? I'm asking because I'm getting an aftermarket 8" and put it in my factory box, of course, with a little modification. The reason why I'm asking is because I don't want the sub amp to overheat because of wrong ohm ratings. Too high will kill it, too low also will kill it so I need to know. Thanks!!

The factory sub amp should be stable to 2 ohms, thats pretty much the industry standard.

There is no industry standard when it comes to high end factory head units with propreitary designs !
They are designed to function only with their built in hardware ! That said, you can upgrade, but I think the factory sub is a 6 ohm driver. You would be safe with a 6 or 8 ohm driver, but not sure about a 4.

That's for sure. I've seen anywhere from 4 to 10 ohms drivers in various vehicles. When in doubt, get out your VOM, and measure the resistance of your factory sub. If you do not have a VOM, you can buy a cheap analog one for about $10. Too high shouldn't be a problem. Too low obviously will.

Thanks guys!! I'll do that when I get home this weekend. I have one question though, when you use the volt meter, where do you put the needles? Do you put them at the connectors clips where you plug them into the speaker or somewhere else? I'm sorry for asking these questions because I don't know much about electrical work. Thanks a lot for your help!!
