O.K. heres what happened. I sorta jumped my sporrtrac, (which is nothing new) but when I landed the rear end bottomed out real hard. I have no lift but am running 35" tires, the front has no wheel wells and everything that was on them relocated, and fiberglass fenders with 8' stroke king shocks. Now the rear has no bed, (just the bedsides) with 16" stroked king shocks. The rear leaf springs are stock though I did remove the overload spring. Now apparantly my transmission was in first gear when I landed, so what happened was the driveshaft slammed against the last x-member under the cab and bent and got dented and one of the ears at the end that houses the u-joint broke. Now thats not the problem cause I'm just gonna buy a used one, anyways all that caused 1st gear to not exist. By the way its a 5spd auto. I'm hoping to put a new drive shaft in and take it to the Ford dealer to possibly warranty the tranny. If they say hell no, then what are my options???

Umm...I'm not trying to be a smart alec or an a-hole. IMHO, Ford shouldn't pay for the repair/replacement. You caused the problem and you should pay for it.

I remember a guy from the Suburu forum overtuned his turbo on his WRX and tried taking it to the dealer and claim it as a warrenty repair but the guys from that forum made sure that Suburu wasn't paying for that guy's mistakes because that would jeopardize the other owners' warrenties if something should happen because of a manufacturing defect.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but don't make them pay for your mistakes. This will, in turn, make the rest of the people pay for something that really was manufacturing defect.

I'm also kinda scratching my head as to why the driveshaft hit the x-member ? The suspension bumps out in the factory location on the factory bump stop w/factory leafs and rear axle?? I'm not someone who wants something for nothing, just thought I'd try. And to clarify my ? was what are my options to rebuid and how much?

depends on a type of transmission you've got. Some are more, some are less expensive. You might want to look for a used one first. I just don't really understand how the drive shaft would hit the X member... that puzzles me... unless the whole frame got twisted? unless the entire rear end got twisted? warped?

beats me.

I also would not even take it to the dealer... one look at your truck and buy, buy warranty. Used parts market.
