Contemplating selling the X and upgrading to a 99-02 5.4L Expedition.

2001 Eddie Bauer 5.0 AWD w/117K on clock (88K on transmission) htd seats, moon roof, pioneer deck with mach amp/sub hooked up. Only issues as of now is the park assist doesnt work (Hasn't worked since I got it, mainly because I can't find new sensors anywhere) and the driver door lock actuator is shot. All electronics works, heated seats work, AC/Heat are fully functioning, etc.

Check craigslist to see what people are asking. Ask the same, expect a couple hundred bucks less.

In a perfect world where people actually realized how much more Explorers are than just a family grocery getter/beater, I would say $4500 give or take.

Around me, that would probably be posited for $4 or just under, and probably sell for right around $3.

This is pretty much what I thought. I think I'm going to list it at $4000 and see where that gets me. I found a couple 99+ 5.4L Expeditions that I've been drooling over.

I picked up my '96 for $2600, but it needed some work, since yours sound almost perfect, you should probably get right around $4000

Stuck it on craigslist for $4500 and cars.com for $5500. Let's see what sticks.

Good luck with the sale man!

FWIW, gas prices don't seem to be hurting truck sales right now. There are times I wish I had gotten an Expedition, just for the extra room since I have three kids sitting in the back at times and sometimes haul stuff that is just a hair too big, but I like the shorter wheelbase in an Explorer. Hope you get what you're looking for.

My chick just got a 98 Expedition last week and I love it. I love the added ground clearance, I love the ability to have a third row, the ride is considerably nicer, and the fact that it shares so many parts with the F150 makes the aftermarket a lot cheaper.

I was going to get one too, until I found out about them blowing spark plugs out. I guess they only have a couple threads holding them in. Ended up going with a second gen ex with the 5.0L in place of my first gen.

Blowing out the plugs on the 5.4 does happen, but the problem is really overstated. It is like listening to people talk about the unintentional acceleration problem that toyota had on a couple vehicles. The way you hear about it, you would think that it happens to everyone who owns one 40 times a day. That problem doesn't happen with the 4.6 liter engines.

Main reason I stick with the Explorers is the shorter wheel base and the slightly better fuel economy. Plus, they cost less. Parts for Explorers are already dirt cheap, so honestly, I wouldn't say one saves a lot of money being able to shop F150/Expedition parts, especially since the 5.0 is a cheaper engine to buy stuff for than the 5.4 or 4.6 anyway.

Plus, my first gen was so good to me, I just can't give up having an Explorer anymore. I hate the front end of the second gen Explorers, but then again, I also hate the look of the early expeditions and F150s from that era. To car-like and rounded. I don't care for most of the newer offerings, aside from looks, and older ones that I like the look of, it is impossible to find them in good condition. Thankfully, I am doing something about the front of my Explorer. I've got a header panel for an 06 ranger, need to pick up a grill, hood and headlights, and I've got 04 fenders I need to cut to graft onto my Explorer so I can change the look of the front of my Explorer to an 04+ Ranger, which is a lot more truck-like IMO. Another one of those, "when I have the time", projects.

bought my 2000 5.0 X last year for 3000, it had 130,000 miles
