how much fluid?

i have the stock 94 xlt fuilds in my differentials front and rear! i would like to change them seeing as how i am over 200k miles! keeps going and going! mostly cause the miles are freeway or high way miles! lol but i need to know how much fluid it will take and if i should do anything else while i am in there cleaning? any help or suggestions would be kool thanks guyz

to drain the front you have to either suck it up out of the fill hole or remove the diff from the beam.

Rear takes approx 2.5 quarts.

the chart says 5 pints which = 2.5 quarts

any particualar brands of fluids?? any difference between front fluid and rear fluid

Honestly, if you are stock you can run the cheap stuff (castrol 80w-90)

But, you can possibly squeek out an extra .5 mile per gallon or so with some snytheitic 70w-90 gear oil... brands amsoil, richmond, redline

Do you know if you have a factory limited slip?

If you do, you will need to add in some friction modifer (only 2oz per quart), but thats only if you use the cheap 80w-90 stuff.

If you use the synthetic gear oil, it already has the additive needed for limited slips, so you wont need to add it reguardless.

yeah i have all stock~ so what spend a lil extra on the fluids and it will have the mixture your talking about ? i mean the additive? i am going to do the front rear and swap trans filter this friday! wish me luck! i will probably post pics on it to see what my xlt looks like at 200k+ miles!

Wow 80w90.
My 2002 REAR needs 75w 140 synthetic Only with 4oz friction modifier.
autobarn has 75w 90 synthetic for about $6.99..maybe more or less out west. Make sure vehicle is level..and fill till it runs out of the fill hole.

Go Synthetic...its worth the money
