I was wondering how much is a reasonable price to pay for these axles at a pick and pull junk yard.

f150 HP44??
Wagoneer D44??
D60??

bare in mind these axles are in upstate new york "rust/ salt belt", need to be torn apart and rebuilt.
I'm cruising to a local pick and pull Saturday, and if I see something usable.. I maybe scooping it up. I just don't want to pay way to much.
I'll most likely have to cut/ get it off the doner vehicles

D60 will run typically between 700-900 for the Ford HP 60. Dodge/Chevy D60s tend to be cheaper, but thats useless to you.
Wagoneer/J-10 D44s can be had for cheap, like between $150 and $300.

Don't pay more than $2Hundie for a waggy.

I wont pay more than 80 for a d44, thats the price from a local yard.

A d60 would be 80 as well if I acually ever found one there, but they never are. Expect more like 800-1000 from someone who knows what they are selling.

Thats a good point. Sometimes if you're looking for a D60, or a pair of axles for both front and back (to match width and lug pattern), its sometimes cheaper to buy the entire vehicle and scrap the rest after you've pulled what you need because people selling these entire vehicles see them as just old crap nobody would ever need.

why do front d60s cost so much more then a d44?
is there that much of a demand for them?
or are there just fewer of them

There are fewer of them, and they are sought after by serious off-roaders more than the D44 -- obviously because of its strength advantage. But in parallel to that, some D60 parts are a lot more than D44's too. An example is the hub lockouts (D44's typically costs around $80-$100 where as a D60's will go between $190 and $220).

They are very rare compared to the D44. Majority of 4x4's sold were 1/2 and 3/4 ton... not alot of 1 tons sold as a 4x4. Also, its even worse in the southern states as back in the 70's & 80's anyone who wanted a 4x4 almost always bought a 1/2 ton. Finding a 78-79 F350 D60 around here that isnt already in someones rig is impossible.

Add to all that the Ford D60 was the only one made that was high pinion, and well you can see why they demand a premium. :)

thanks for the info guys. but we just got like 9inchs of POWDA and the pick and pull is out for this weekend. and SNAboarding is IN
