How much time for a clutch job?

How much time should I set aside for this on my 94 4x? I am no pro, but a pretty good backyard mechanic. Will one full day be enough?

Yeah one day should do. Just so long as you can hold your frustration in! It's not a fun job by anymeans, but not to bad. I think the hardest part is getting the hydralic line off of the slave cylinder, man i hate doing that! I'm hoping you're going to have help with this?

I should be able to recruit somebody, and I have one of the tools coming for disconnecting the slave, so maybe that will help.

You can do it yourself, but it's a pain. It's really nice to have an extra set of hands when it comes time to wiggling the tranny off, and wiggling it back on cause you have to line up slines and everything else. Do you have a transmission jack?

Get a tranny jack adapter for a floor jack, it will save you a ton of time and frustration. I also had problems with the hydraulic line too, but my problem was that I thought I needed the tool to disconnect it, so I spent way too much time going to every parts store around looking for it. I finally got it off with a screwdriver but now I see that tool everywhere I go. You need a torque wrench too. If you have the hydraulic line tool, a tranny jack, and a torque wrench, you'll be set.

I bought one of those adapters for my 3 ton floor jack from harbor frieght. It did pretty well. Only problem had with it was it wanted to fall off the jack, so i had to drill a hole for a pin to put through my jack and the adapter so it couldn't fall off. I still can't find a good tool to get the lines off. I couldn't get it with a screw driver either. I must be doing it all wrong.

Suffice to say that it is a nightmare job. If you don't have a transmission jack there is no way you can do this without some help from someone else. You want to allow two days at a minimum in my opinion. When it comes time to shove the transmission back on the engine is where you have to mess with it forever to get it lined up properly so that they will mate up. That transmission is seriously heavy and can't be just horsed around either.

I would recommend renting a transmission jack for the weekend to help things go smoother.

I actually managed (I don't know how) to get the tranny out on my own with only the use of a floor jack, to get it back in I had to inlist my roommate. If I did it again I could do it in a 1/3 to a 1/4 of the time I'm sure, but hopefully that won't be for a while.

The more you do it the better, and faster you get. I could do one in about 4 hours max. But i just have to get the hydralic line off and that's about 2 hours of my 4
