How reliable is the push button 4x4 on the 94?

Is this something i should upgrade for i take it out off road? i dont plan on nothing to serious as it just stock (for now) previous owner only used it in the snow, and to go back n forth a bit to get out of it

Use it until it doesn't work, and keep your eyes open for a manual shift tcase to swap in, that's kinda the only 'upgrade'.
 






It is a pretty simple design and the shift motors are repairable and available. HOWEVER, I would think that you wouldn't want to submerge the electric shift motor or it could be shorted out

how deep can i go?
 






Get underneath and look where the shift motor is, then measure down to the ground if you want an inch measurement. But keep in mind that it's not the only thing you don't want to submerge, there's other electronics and of course the air intake.
 






and axle grease seals are to keep grease in, NOT water out !
