how to covert 12 volts to 5 volts?

im trying to convert a dvd player which is 110 volt to 12 volt, wel on the power harness i that there is a 12volt power source and a 5 volt source going to the circuit , is it possibe to make a 12 volt source power this without burning anythingup?? this is for my truck thats why im trying to convert it to 12volt , if i can convert it that means i dont have to run heavy wires to the battery for my converter so i just thought i would ask here. thanks for the help guys !!

You're going to need a DC/AC power converter. Running 12v dc into a 110v AC circuit can/most likely fry the electronic circuit...
