Got an -94 U2 Explorer, could go about 8-10 mpg in smoth highway crusing at 55 mph.

Normal tires, engine seems like normal exept highpreformance air filter.
The car is good in acceleration and running well, easy to start.

Here in Sweden there is not that many that knows alot about the Exlorer.

Any suggestions to make it goes in better milage?

Regards Mats

First of all, welcome to this site.

To improve mileage, consider the following:
Change ALL fluids to synthetic
Use proper tire air pressure
Install a cat back exhaust system
Remove roof rack ( causes drag )
Keep a very good shine on the truck ( Zaino products recommended )
KKM or K&N air intake
Drive in a responsible manner.

This should help. I get 23-25 MPG at 75MPG on the open road.

Good luck……

8-10mpg?

Sounds like it's time for new O2 sensors.

Thanks for the answer, hopefully that would help, it might not make the whole way, to double the milage gonna be a really teknical problem.

Gonna try it anyway, thanks!

Regards Mats

Also, I would recommend changing plugs and wires ( I like Magnacore wires ).
Have a diagnostic scan done; repair/replace any items that need it.

Try using synthetic oil. I just switched from Mobil 1 10W-30 to 5W-30 and I got a mileage increase of 3 miles per gallon. So I have 22 mpg compared to 19 on the highway. My truck has the trip computer that shows how much fuel used so that's how I got the mpg estimate then I averaged it. Which rounds to 22 mpg. It's awesome!!

Did I read this correctly? By changing from Mobil 1 10w30 to Mobil 1 5w30, you got the increase mentioned?

Thanks....

I don't know how but that's how much increase I got. It's strictly on highway though.

What increase did you get from going from conventional oil to Mobil 1?

Thanks....

I'm not sure, right after getting the truck at 34k, I immediately changed the oil to Mobil 1 10W-30 and serviced the tranny at the shop. I was getting around 16 mpg mixed. Like what I said, the 22 mpg is strictly highway driving.

hopefully i notice a 3 mpg increase when i switch to my castrol blend to amsoil later on this month
