I have a 2003 xlt 4.0 90,000 I have owned this rig since new. MPGs when new 21/17 very consistantly now 17/14. My family and I went to Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat. Parks for Vacation in August Alt. 6000'-8500' during the trip I aveaged 23mpgs why/how??? In one of our trips we drove from Jackson Hole to Old Faithfull and back 45mph start/stop/uphill/sight/seeing(buffalo, moose, pronghorn, elk, sceenry, etc.), filled up in Jackson Hole before we started, 373.8 miles later at the same gas station at 8:36pm filled up again 14.8 gallons 25.7 MPG so amazing to me I saved the reciept and now would like to know how I can make my Explorer get this kind of MPG all the time. There must be a way.

e fan? maybe try pumping pure gas instead of gas with 10% ethanol instead if yall have any near you. hmm and maybe if you want to spend the money a programmer.

The fuel used was the 10% still 25mpg. All I want to know is how to duplicate this performance maybe a programer is the answer I dont know. I do know its alot to spend to find out its not the answer, I am hoping someone has the answer that is the pupose of this post.

well its not like the programmer is a bad way to go. i mean you gain a lil bit of power too that you might have lost over time. plus if you do an e fan (which you can pull off of a taurus) will free up some hp and with all that said it wil give you some gain in mpg also. of course you never know but thats why they made forums! haha

I know its not a bad way, but my X got this mileage with no mods. The only explanation I can come up with is the altitude had something to do with it. Maybe the thinner air caused the MAS to open more and mix the fuel at a more efficient rate. I dont know but 8mpg over my regular average hiway mpg average warrant asking the question. Then has anybody experienced what I am yalking about with a programmer?

Maybe go a bigger throttle body or a more open air intake? I was stoked to get 20 mpg after I got my henson tuned x3, but I've never come close to what you got. Maybe move to yellowstone or add a sulpher injection system? (these don't exist....I think?)

Welcome to the forum. Check out the bottom link in my signature to see the fuel saving modifications I have done.

i did a throttle body extension, k&n filter and a airbox mod and idk if it had any benefit but maybe?
