The '96 X needs new shoes. Read reviews, decide Michelin Cross Terrains are the ticket, standard size 235/75R15. Zip over to Costco, service manager says they can't install them on my X! :fire: It's a recommended tire for the '98-'02 series but not allowed for any others.

Anybody else had this problem? Any suggestions for working around it? I'm thinking about going to another Costco and telling them it's a '98 ... but they'll probably check ...

Thanks!

Janet

go to another costco... thats crap..... they should install them, its even the right size tire..... costco has some issue with installing non factory size tiers onto explorers... but that size is the factory size...

come to thin kof it... my dad had the cross terrains put onto my moms 96 explorer a couple years ago... from costco....

That's insane. Another option is to find a shop that will price match, like NTB. I took a competitor's sale flyer to NTB and they gave me that price. I have the Cross Terrain SUV tires and I think they are great, except for the price.

Costco did that to me too. The solution was to leave the truck at home and have a buddy bring in the old wheels and tires in the back of his pickup. Tell Costco that you need the tires for a F350 that you left at home. They will mount your new tires and you just hall them home and bolt them on.
